The USS Phoenix Keel-Laying Ceremony, 30 July 1977 in Groton, CT.  Ms. Betty Rhodes, wife of famed Congressman John Rhodes of AZ is the sponsor.  She is shown with the equally famous Admiral Hyman Rickover, Father of the nuclear submarine.  Betty’s initials are scribed on the keel.

Nuclear-Powered Attack Submarine USS Phoenix (SSN 702) launched in December, 1979. The 702 is 362 ft long, small compared to its big brother, an Ohio-Class Missile-Shooter, some 560 ft long.
